I’m going to have a rant today.
Millwall were on TV for the first time in about four years last week. We were taking on high-flying Leeds United and it was set to be a proper game of football just like in the old days before these stupid rules came in and made it a non-contact sport.
We were not too far into the game when their centreback tripped McLoed who had gone past him and would have been free to go on and attack the goal. I believe that the guy was lucky not to be sent off and if the incident had happened a 10 yards neaer there goal then he would have seen red.
This centreback had to bee spoken to twice by the ref for further fouls and in the dying moments of the game took Abdu’s legs and managed to get away with it because the ref did nto want to send anybody off.
Jermaine Beckford should not have been on the pitch after he looked over his shoulder and then elbowed David Forde full in the face. After the game he smiled at the camera and said “I never did anything”. Thankfully the FA looked at the video and banned him for three games – the dirty little shit!
The thing that angered me here was that the linesmen was in a perfect position yet called the ref over to deal with Beckford’s push on Craig 30 seconds earlier. Why did he not tell him about the elbow?
When Abdu was hacked to the floor in the penalty area the linesman was about 10 yards away and never said a fucking word.
Why do we have linesmen and a fourth official if they are going to keep their mouths shut when they spot things that the referee misses? Isn’t that what they are there for? To help the ref when he misses important incidents?
It was not just against Leeds. On Saturday Tony Craig and a Stockport County player went into a tackle and and as Craig got up the Stockport County player kicked out at him. The linesman flagged but only because Tony Craig got angry at the kick and got in the player’s face as he got to his feet.
The ref was called over and he gave Craig a telling off while the other player got away scott free!
