Ibrahimovic: “I shall remain a Barca player.”

Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic speaking in Norway on thursday has said that he will be staying at what he believes to be “the best club in the world”.

In his press conference before the Barcelona game this evening with Valerenga, Ibrahimovic made it clear that he plans to stay on at the club.

“I’m a Barca player and I shall remain a Barca player.”

The Swede has high hopes for the season that’s just getting underway and already has his eyes set on the first title of the season, the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla.

Ibra said that he has spoken with coach Pep Guardiola in detail and said:

“He [Guardiola] told me I’m important for him, and from now, what I have to do is keep working hard to maintain his confidence.”

Definitely, it is only normal for there to be competition at a team like Barcelona, but will the competition be too good for the tall striker now that World Cup winner David Villa has joined the squad as well. Only time will tell.

Severel rumors had emerged about his future in recent weeks and Ibrahimovic replied to them by saying:

“Those rumors have not affected me because I have no doubt that I want to stay here. I’d rather take the rumors as a compliment.”

Frankly Zlatan, being related to a move to Manchester City isn’t really a compliment in football circles.

Fabregas Agrees Personal Terms With Barcelona?

ea80218ae0fdc6b886ca2a3be919b605 Fabregas Agrees Personal Terms With Barcelona?Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas is said to have agreed personal terms with the Catalans, according to the latest reports in Spain.

Sport claimed that the Spaniard has signed a 5 year contract and will be receiving £5.9 million per season.

However, Fabregas’ current club, Arsenal, are yet to agree any deal with Barcelona and in fact, are not accepting to sit down and talk with Barcelona representatives.

Manager Arsene Wenger is said to hold a meeting with the World Cup winner to talk about his future this week, but things do not look good for the Frenchman because all Fabergas’ international team-mates have claimed that he wants to join Barcelona to be reunited with his childhood club, but the only thing stopping him is his very strong relationship with the fans. On Sunday, Andres Iniesta talked about how Fabregas said he would love to become a Catalan, and before him, Xavi said the same thing.

Although Arsenal are avoiding any contact with Barcelona, the La Liga winners are not expected to quit their quest to land the 23 year-old midfielder, but being rejected previously could only give them the impression that things might not work out this season.

Arsenal are unwilling to sit and talk about Fabregas

Barcelona board spokesman Toni Freixa says Arsenal have rejected any kind of offer to discuss the future of skipper Cesc Fabregas.

The 23 year old midfielder has been linked with a move to La Liga winners Barcelona since the beginning of the summer, with the Catalans revealing their interest to the media over and over again.

A €35 million bid had officially been rejected by Arsenal from Barcelona in the beginning of the summer, but now, Freixa claims Arsenal simply won’t consider any offer.

“Arsenal don’t want to sit down and negotiate with us. It’s not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca – they simply don’t want to negotiate.”

He told reporters on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, after the sale of Yaya Toure to Manchester City, Freixa also said that a new defensive midfielder is on their wish list knowing that there is no cover for Sergio Busquets.

“The technical secretary is working hard on that.”

Said Freixa.

The Fabregas Dilemma

If James Milner is worth 30 million pounds, Cesc Fabregas is worth 100, so Arsenal’s reluctance to do business with Barcelona is understandable, with the Catalans making an offer well below a fair evaluation.

Arsenal’s refusal is also dangerous.

They have previous in this regard. The constant talk of Patrick Vieira’s departure while he was captain of the club took a clear toll on his form. By the time he finally left for Juventus in 2005, he was only showing sporadic flashes of the class that was once his calling card.

When Thierry Henry decided to stay on in 2006 rather than join Barcelona, his last season turned out to be a disappointing one, as he struggled for fitness and form.

When someone is unsure of their sense of belonging to a club, of their own desire to be there, it is unrealistic to expect them to perform at optimum level. Fans will talk romantically of a glorious final season, but Fabregas may feel a sense of bitterness about having to hang around and play alongside players who have nothing close to his ability or status. This works both ways; if the fans see, or think they see, his commitment dropping, they will grow bitter too.

If Arsene Wenger cannot surround Fabregas with the team mates he deserves, maybe now would be the time to sell the Spaniard and buy three or four players who will make the team a stronger collective. But if Barcelona are unable to pay a fair price for a player with years left to run on his current contract, there is little Wenger and Arsenal can do but wait, and hope.

La Liga champions Barcelona have been linked with the tenacious central midfielder all summer but are now resigned to missing out on their top transfer target and will reignite their interest next year.

Barca ace Iniesta, who led his country to World Cup glory with the winning goal against Holland in the final, has spoken to Fabregas and admits his international team-mate wants one more campaign at the Emirates to have a final crack at winning the Premier League.

Iniesta told reporters:

“Cesc [Fabregas] wants to be with us, but he told me how close the Arsenal fans are to his heart.”

“He is a special player and I hope he wins the title at Arsenal this season. For them to win Cesc will have to stay fit and injury-free, but he deserves to finish with a title. For all the work and effort he has put in at Arsenal it would be a shame if it was all fruitless.”

“I have seen time after time Lionel Messi win games for Barcelona when the rest of the team have not been on form and Cesc can do that for Arsenal this season.”

Iniesta, who along with several other Barcelona stars have made no secret of their desire to see Fabregas return to his boyhood club, has made it clear he hopes to link up with the Arsenal captain next season.

And Iniesta hopes that Fabregas fulfills his ambition in England next May and finally gets his hands on the coveted Premier League title.

“Arsenal are not as strong as Chelsea. But they try to play football the way it was intended to be played and that should be rewarded.”

“Cesc is such a special player that he could carry a team to the title on his own and I hope he does it this coming season.”

“It would be brilliant if Arsenal’s hero could lift the title as captain during his last season. I think that it would be fantastic for everybody.”

He added.
