raul Raul joins German outfit SchalkeBundesliga side Schalke have confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid captain and legend Raul Gonzalez on a free transfer.

The 33 year-old striker was no longer needed at Madrid following the signing of younger superstars like Benzema, Higuain, and Ronaldo. Raul announced his departure on Sunday, and has been linked with a move to Schalke since the beginning of the summer. Raul represented Madrid on 741 occasions, smashing 323 goals into the net in that time. The Spaniard has 102 caps for his national team winning 16 major titles with Los Blancos.

The forward will undergo a medical on Wednesday and then sign a contract should his medical be successful. Raul is to join his new team-mates this afternoon to get to know them better and present himself to the side.

“This is great news for Schalke 04. I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve managed to lure a player like Raul to the Bundesliga and to Schalke. He’s a world-class forward and an extraordinary player.”

Schalke coach Felix Magath was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

“His qualities will help us make the next step in our development as a club. His capture is decisive in our ambition to rebuild the squad and to prepare the team for the future. I’m looking forward to working with Raul.”

Liverpool coach Roy Hudgson has confirmed that Javier Mascherano has made it “perfectly clear” that he wants to leave the club. The Argentine has been strongly linked with a move to treble winners Inter Milan to link up with former Reds coach Rafa Benitez.

Speaking at the press conference, Hudgson said that Macherano wishes to leave, but there is still a glimmer of hope of keeping him at Anfield:

“Yes he wants to leave the club, he’s made that perfectly clear.”

“I think he wanted to leave a year ago and he wants to leave now as well. But, he is contracted to Liverpool club so whether he leaves will be our decision.”

“At the moment he’s a Liverpool player, he’ll be expected to be a Liverpool player and will be treated like a Liverpool player until such a day arrives when he no longer is.”

“The mere fact a player is a little bit unhappy with his situation and would prefer to leave doesn’t necessarily mean that he will.”

“Yes it disappoints me but it’s not unusual. In every football club all through the Premier League and the world there’ll be players in the team who want to leave.”

“Some are allowed to, some are not allowed to. That’s the situation.”

“Mascherano is a Liverpool player and has a two-year contract. I expect him to honor that contract until the day comes when the club decide to accept an offer for his services.”

Arsenal are unwilling to sit and talk about Fabregas

Barcelona board spokesman Toni Freixa says Arsenal have rejected any kind of offer to discuss the future of skipper Cesc Fabregas.

The 23 year old midfielder has been linked with a move to La Liga winners Barcelona since the beginning of the summer, with the Catalans revealing their interest to the media over and over again.

A €35 million bid had officially been rejected by Arsenal from Barcelona in the beginning of the summer, but now, Freixa claims Arsenal simply won’t consider any offer.

“Arsenal don’t want to sit down and negotiate with us. It’s not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca – they simply don’t want to negotiate.”

He told reporters on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, after the sale of Yaya Toure to Manchester City, Freixa also said that a new defensive midfielder is on their wish list knowing that there is no cover for Sergio Busquets.

“The technical secretary is working hard on that.”

Said Freixa.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson has all the money he needs should he plan on bringing a player to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils have already spent some £20 million on Chris Smalling from Fulham and Javier Hernandez from Guadalajara but the two youngsters are likely to be back-up in their first season in the Theater Of Dreams.

Manchester United supporters world-wide have been frustrated at the lack of star signings following the record-breaking move of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, with players like Mezut Oezil and Luis Fabiano being linked with a move to the Premier League runners-up.

However, Gill insists Sir Alex has the money to spend should he be interested in a player.

He told The Manchester Evening News:

“The money is there if we believe there is a player who can improve what we believe is a very good squad.”

“The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a very high quality.”

Gill did not confirm who is on the Manchester United radar but says that United are searching the whole world, all year long looking for the latest talents in world football.

He added:

“We are always looking at players. We are looking 365 days a year – it doesn’t just start when the transfer window opens.”

“We are looking at it. We studied a lot of players at the World Cup, but we knew about a lot of them before that.”

“Over all I think Sir Alex is very comfortable with the squad composition. That’s not to say something won’t happen, but I think it is a ‘might’, not a ‘will’.”

“We will see what happens over the next six weeks.”

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez revealed his thoughts on the speculation surrounding Fernando Torres’ future at Anfeild.

The Argentine talked about how much he would love to play alongside “one of the top strikers in the world” and that if Torres does indeed join City, then the team will certainly but improve.

Torres has been linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United as well as Barcelona, but Liverpool coach Roy Hudgson has claimed that Torres is going nowhere, yet Tevez remains optimistic.

Tevez told The Sun:

“Torres would definitely make us better. He’s one of the top strikers in the world and I would love to have him as a team-mate.”

“Last year we ended up contesting the Champions League places. I have no doubt that this year we will achieve that aim and fight for the title. The club will pick up reinforcements and this will make us stronger.”

Tevez enjoyed a fantastic debut season with Manchester City after moving from rivals Manchester United, scoring 23 goals in the Premier League, and helping his team reach European competition and just short of a Champions League position, as Tottenham claimed that spot.

“I know I’ve never regretted coming to City. It’s the best decision I ever made.”

He concluded.
