Manchester United have a concrete interest in Aalesunds FK’s Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard, according to the Norwegian club’s director.

The 26-year-old Lindegaard moved from Danish side Odense last year, and with him in goal, Aalesund sport the third-best defense in the Norwegian top flight this season, with only 19 goals conceded in 18 matches. Thanks to that sound defense, Aalesund are fourth in the Tippeligaen and only four points behind second-placed Valerenga a little more than halfway through the season, after finishing 13th in the 16-team league last season.

Aalesund director Henrik Hoff, in comments to Norwegian media sources, confirmed United’s interest, but he also stated that Lindegaard won’t be sold on the cheap.

“Manchester United have not been in contact with us directly, but I can confirm that there is an interest.”

“There is no smoke without fire.

“In case a big club like Manchester United show interest in our players, we are ready to negotiate.

“But Anders Lindegaard is in my eyes the best keeper in the Tippeliga and if he should be sold, a big sum will be required.”

C.D. Guadalajara are better known by their nickname Chivas and they have never been relegated from the Mexican Premier Division and they only field players born in Mexico and they do not have a single foreigner in their squad. Still, they are the most successful Mexican club in international football. Beat that!

The match is part of the deal that landed the Mexican star Javier ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez in Old Trafford. He is expected to play against his former teammates in this fixture after debuting for United as a substitute against MLS All-Stars – he also scored in that fixture.

Chicarito joined United after the Kansas City Wizards upset for their last game in North America. Can his teammates pull off another upset on the inauguration of their new stadium? It will be quite an openning for sure.

Manchester United chief David Gill: Ferguson has the money to spend on transfers

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson has all the money he needs should he plan on bringing a player to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils have already spent some £20 million on Chris Smalling from Fulham and Javier Hernandez from Guadalajara but the two youngsters are likely to be back-up in their first season in the Theater Of Dreams.

Manchester United supporters world-wide have been frustrated at the lack of star signings following the record-breaking move of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, with players like Mezut Oezil and Luis Fabiano being linked with a move to the Premier League runners-up.

However, Gill insists Sir Alex has the money to spend should he be interested in a player.

He told The Manchester Evening News:

“The money is there if we believe there is a player who can improve what we believe is a very good squad.”

“The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a very high quality.”

Gill did not confirm who is on the Manchester United radar but says that United are searching the whole world, all year long looking for the latest talents in world football.

He added:

“We are always looking at players. We are looking 365 days a year – it doesn’t just start when the transfer window opens.”

“We are looking at it. We studied a lot of players at the World Cup, but we knew about a lot of them before that.”

“Over all I think Sir Alex is very comfortable with the squad composition. That’s not to say something won’t happen, but I think it is a ‘might’, not a ‘will’.”

“We will see what happens over the next six weeks.”

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expresses his delight after Nemanja Vidic commited his future to the club.

The Scot has revealed that the Serbian has agreed to extend his contract for a further four years which gives him a huge boost looking at Rio Ferdinand’s crisis with injury.

Vidic has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid with Jose Mourinho keen to sign a defender but Manchester United have brushed all the speculation by agreeing the extension of his contract.

Ferguson said to the press:

“In the modern game, it is not easy to renew players’ contracts when they do well, particulary those from other countries.”

“Over the last year or so, there has been speculation about Nemanja time and time again, sometimes by the press, sometimes by other sources. But wenever had a strong feeling that he really wanted to leave. There is always concern if they do well, they will want better contracts.”

“At the end of the day, we have managed to acheive the task of  getting him to agree a four-year contract.”

“We are delighted because he is a fantastic centre-half, a great competitor with a marvellous attitude to win games. It strengthens our hand.”

Ferguson also talked about the injuries of other vital players like Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves.

“Rio should be six weeks. It was a ligament problem afterall.”

“I am not sure if Owen will be back by the beginning of the season though.”

However, Gary Neville returned to training onFriday, and Antonio Valencia should be back by Monday.

Manchester United to offer Real target Vidic £90k per week extension

It remains to be seen whether Rio Ferdinand will be fit for Manchester United’s Premier League curtain raiser against Newcastle on 16 August, but the club are set to ward off the speculation about his partner in the heart of United’s back line.

According to the Guardian, United are set to offer defensive stalwart Nemanja Vidic a two-year contract extension worth £90k per week. Vidic, who arrived from Spartak Moscow in a £7m deal in January 2006, currently has two years left on a deal that pays him £70k per week.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from United on multiple occasions over the last year, and this summer, Real Madrid have been bandied about as the top potential destination. And last month, Paolo Fabbri, a Vidic representative, opened a can of doubt about the Serbian stopper’s future.

“We are waiting for Nemanja to tell us what we he wants to do,” Fabbri said. “We are waiting as it is up to him. He is concentrating on something else [the World Cup] so I guess it won’t be until after the World Cup he makes a decision on his future. We have requested some time from Manchester United to think about things and Nemanja does not want to look at things until after the World Cup. Any eventual transfer will take place only after the World Cup.”

But yesterday, Silvano Martina, Vidic’s agent, told Italian media that there’s been no contact from Real and that Vidic is looking ahead to next season with Manchester United.

“Real Madrid? So far the Spanish club has not contacted us.”

“The player is on holiday in Mallorca and he is thinking about next season with Manchester United.

“It is difficult for him to leave England even if with the market open anything can happen.”

Sir Alex Ferguson may not have had the most definitive answers when pressed about Vidic yesterday, but he did state that he believes Vidic will be at the club this season. And if United’s forthcoming contract offer is to his liking, he’ll be there for a few seasons more.
